The last few months have been busy, and I can finally reveal what’s been going on – some sci-fi work for Melon HK!! (o^▽^o)
What is Melon HK?
Melon HK is an annual science fiction conference that brings together award-winning and emerging science fiction writers, filmmakers, and industry professionals from all over the world to share, brainstorm, and be inspired.
Coming from the city of high rises and dense population, it felt natural to me to consider what the future of Hong Kong was going to look like in the future for the images I created for Melon HK. The city’s aesthetics are already steering towards a classic vision of a futuristic city.
In addition to the iconic skyline, I used elements such as flying vehicles – particularly transportation which is synonymous with Hong Kong such as the Ding Ding or the MTR – to add to the futuristic feel, as well as elements from conference speakers’ works in the form of neon signs to promote the event.
Speakers include Charlie Jane Anders (All the Birds in the Sky), Hao Jingfang (Folding Beijing), Lavie Tidhar (Central Station) and many more. This conference is sure to be a wonderful experience.
The Melon HK Sci Fi Conference is on from 19-20 April, so if anyone is in Hong Kong or is a sci fi aficionado (or even better, both), Melon HK have provided lovely readers with 50% off discount using the code ‘melonfan‘ at the checkout. So grab your tickets fast!
